Good evening Pirate fans !!! Sorry for the late blog today, but things have been a little hectic as we prepare for the start of the baseball season, which is 17 days away.

Ali once said "Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from
something they have deep inside them -- a desire, a dream, a vision."
The 2011 freshmen class at East Carolina are champions on the field winning a combined 15 conference and state titles, but their collective desire and vision to help the Pirates earn their first-ever trip to Omaha and win the College World Series is why they now call Greenville, N.C. home.
Check out the last installment of the East Carolina's 2011 Baseball Media Day from earlier this week. Head Coach Billy Godwin, who is in his sixth year steering the Pirate ship, talks about the upcoming season.
Under the direction of sixth-year head coach Billy Godwin, the East Carolina baseball team held its first team practice of the 2011 season Friday afternoon at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium as preparations continued for the upcoming campaign.
Hey there Pirate fans!!! With today being the first official day of spring practice, I've decided to throw a couple of player interviews (Austin Homan, Seth Maness, Seth Simmons and Trent Whitehead) from Media Day on the Blog.
Good evening Pirate Nation ... I hope you enjoyed listening to what Coach Billy Godwin had to say during the annual Media Day on Wednesday! Today I've put some video together from East Carolina's pitching coach Dan Roszel.
Pirate Nation ... Today we will give your eyes a little rest from reading about all the new faces that are on the 2011 baseball squad. Instead we are going to let you listen in to what Head Coach Billy Godwin had to say while participating in the annual Media Day at Clark-LeClair Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
Despite winning 10 World Series titles with the New York Yankees in his 19-year Major League career, Hall of Famer Yogi Berra might be better known for his off the wall quotes like "It's déjà vu all over again." Berra explained that this quote originated when he witnessed Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris repeatedly hit back to back home runs in the Yankees' seasons in the early 1960s.
Jonathan Holt comes to East Carolina after a successful prep career at West Forsyth High School where he was a three-year starter for coach Randy Pope. As a three-time all-conference and two-time all-county selection, Holt helped the Titans to a 21-4 record as a senior where he batted .380 with eight home runs and 39 RBI.
One of the hardest things for incoming freshmen to do is adjust to college life and for a student-athlete it's seems to be a little harder. The daily rigors of trying to fit in with your peers, excel academically and be successful on the field/court it takes a lot of dedication and time management skills.
In four of the past six years the East Carolina baseball team has garnered high praise when it comes to its recruiting classes and efforts. With this year's freshmen class (2010-11 signees), there is no shortage of talent as eight of the 12 earned all-state honors and two were selected in the 2010 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft earning them a top-50 recruiting class by Collegiate Baseball.
Head Coach Billy Godwin has said on numerous occasions that when he hits the recruiting trail that he wants to make North Carolina his top priority and bring the top talent to East Carolina, and since stepping on campus in 2005 that's pretty much what he has done. But that doesn't mean he won't venture away from the Old North State looking to reel in top talent from neighboring states to help the Pirates reach their goal of Omaha.
After an uncharacteristic season a year ago in which the East Carolina baseball team posted a 32-27 (.542) record and missed post-season play, Head Coach Billy Godwin and his staff welcomes 12 new faces to help put the Pirates back into post-season play.
