The 10th Inning (Jan. 24)

As a coach when you are entertaining the idea of bringing in Junior College players, you try and sign guys that will come in and make an immediate impact on the program. In short, it's filling a position of need and that's exactly what Coach Billy Godwin did when he brought in infielder's Michael Ussery and Timothy Younger.

Younger, a two-year starter at St. Petersburg Junior College (SPC), helped the Titans to a two-year 69-44 record. The Clearwater, Fla. native played in 109 games for Coach Dave Paro posting a .301 average with 15 doubles, 62 RBI, scored 77 runs and walked 69 times.

During his sophomore season, Younger batted .335 with eight doubles and 23 RBI and guided the Titans to a second place Sun Coast Conference finish in the regular season and a fourth place finish in the Florida state tournament where SPC downed No. 1 seed Gulf Coast Community College in the opening round, 10-9.

Off the field, Younger a National Honor Society member at Clearwater High School, was one of 18 Pirates to be named to the ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll in the Fall sporting a 3.0 GPA. sat down with Younger for a quick 15 Question segment:

2.       Best athlete I've played against (any sport): Eric Hosmer  - 1st round pick (third overall) by the Kansas City Royals in 2008

5.       People say I look like: Michael Ussery

6.       My favorite Pro-Sports team is: Tampa Bay Rays

7.       If I were a Pirate, my name would be: Captain T

8.       My favorite midnight snack: McDonalds double cheeseburger and fries

9.       My favorite breakfast cereal as a kid was: Reese's Puffs

10.   My advice to youngsters is: Have fun doing what you love

11.   Favorite pre-game meal: Macaroni and cheese

12.   The biggest obstacle I've overcome was: Leaving home

13.   My biggest frustration has been: Gaining weight

14.   The job I hated most was: When I was a Target employee

15.   The thing I like most about ECU is: The fans

Did You Know?

Younger's nickname around the clubhouse is Spider Man, which was given to him by the coaching staff because of the way he plays defense. Coach Schnabel has compared his defensive skill set to that of former Pirate shortstop Billy Richardson, who he coached in 2004.
