The East Carolina baseball team was able to salvage a win against No. 10 Virginia earning a 4-3 victory in the series finally. On the season the Pirates own a 4-2 record, its fourth winning record through six games since the 2004. Despite surrendering 17 runs (six earned) on the weekend, ECU's hurlers boast a Conference USA best 1.56 team ERA.

ECU will get its first true test of the season when they travel to No. 10 Virginia for a three-game series. Both teams enter the weekend riding stellar pitching as the Pirates boast an impressive 1.00 ERA, while the Cavaliers' hurlers have a 2.50 ERA.
The East Carolina baseball team is off to a 3-0 start following a series opening sweep of Youngstown State at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. After one weekend the strength of the squad looks to be the pitching staff, who surrendered just three runs in 27.0 innings, while the starting trio of Seth Maness, Zach Woods and Mike Wright allowed just one in 17 innings - a lead off home run in the season opener.

One of the longest evenings in a Sports Information Director (SID) career is when he/she starts putting together media credential packets for the start of their respective sports seasons. After collecting faxes and emails from our local media contingents over the past month, today was that day for me. Around the country nearly all 292 Division I teams will kick off the 2011 season searching for the feeling that South Carolina had at the end of last year when they topped UCLA for the College World Series (CWS) title in Omaha, Neb. at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Well just as East Carolina prepares for their season opener next week against Youngstown State, several former Pirates will be hitting the diamond as well pursuing their dreams of playing in the Major Leagues.

WOW - what a great day it has been for the Pirate Nation. What's so great about you ask? Well today was the 11th Annual "Meet the Pirates" luncheon, which was held the Murphy Center's Harvey Banquet Hall.
