The 10th Inning (Opening Weekend)

It's hard to believe in less than two hours the East Carolina baseball team will be playing their final game of the opening weekend series against Youngstown State.

As I write this, the Pirates are 2-0 on the season and looking to complete the series sweep of the Penguins, its first non-conference sweep since N.C. Central last March. ECU is 2-0 for just the second time since 2004, the other being in 2009 and wouldn't you know it both of those clubs went on to make Super Regional appearances.

Now it's a little to early to say just how far this team can go, especially with the tough schedule ahead, but if you believe in the trends of baseball - then it looks like Pirate fans will be in for an exciting season.

Additional Note: The last five times an ECU squad started 5-0, they have reached NCAA post-season play - three of those ended with Super Regional appearances (2001, 2004 and 2009).

Make sure you check back on Monday for some more tidbits from the opening weekend and if you can't make today's game, be sure to follow the 'Live Chat' from Clark-LeClair Stadium starting a 12:45 p.m.
