The 10th Inning (Week Seven Recap)

East Carolina managed to record just a pair of wins on the week defeating Elon 7-0 at home during midweek action before taking the series finale from No. 21 Rice, 7-3. The Pirates' three losses were by a combined five runs falling to instate rival N.C. State 4-2 and dropping the first two games of a three-game Conference USA series to the Owls 2-1 and 5-3 in 10 innings.

The Pirates have another big week ahead of them as they travel to instate rival and sixth-ranked North Carolina for a midweek game (6 p.m. EST) and then welcome in UCF for a three-game league series starting Friday, April 15 at 6 p.m. (EST).

Pirate Hitter-of-the-Week
John Wooten, Sophomore, 1B

Wooten led the Pirates in runs (4), hits (5) and walks (3) on the week, while ranking second in average (.313) and RBI (3) ... He collected a hit in 4 of 5 games including a 2-for-4 performance in the series finale win against No. 21 Rice ... Against the Owls on Sunday, he drove in a team-best two runs, scored a couple runs and recorded his 30th career multi-hit game ... During midweek action he collected a hit and walked against instate rival N.C. State and posted another base hit and scored a run against Elon ... In the C-USA opener with Rice, he was 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and he followed that with a 1-for-3 performance where he scored and knocked in a run ... He scored the winning run against the Owls in the fourth inning on Sunday and in his first at-bat of the afternoon laced a bases loaded single scoring a pair ... On the season he is batting .278 (35-for-126) with 10 doubles, two triples, 15 RBI and 21 runs.

Pirate Pitcher-of-the-Week
Kevin Brandt, Junior, LHP

Brandt picked up both of ECU's wins on the week posting a 2-0 record on the bump including tossing his second career complete game, which was against No. 21 Rice in ECU's 7-3 victory ... During the week he worked 12.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with two walks and six punch outs, sported a 1.50 ERA and held opponents to a composite .170 average ... Brandt scattered seven hits in his complete game allowing three runs (two earned) and struck out six Owls to improve to 4-0 on the year ... He retired 14 of the final 16 batters faced surrendering a single in the sixth and a leadoff home run to Shane Hoelscher in the ninth ... The southpaw from Fuquay Varina, N.C. recorded multiple punch outs in the first, third and eight frames and gave up just two extra base hits, including a double to Geoff Perrott in the third frame ... Against Elon he tossed three innings of shutout relief issuing one walk and striking out one picking up the win for his eighth career victory in relief ... On the season, Brandt is 4-0 with a 1.02 ERA ... He has allowed 11 runs (five earned) on 27 hits and has recorded 35 punch outs to 10 walks in 44.0 innings ... Combined on a team-best three shutouts, which includes ECU's 7-0 win last week against Elon ... Opposing teams are hitting a composite .180 against him.
