On Friday, East Carolina's baseball team knocked off Milwaukee-Wisconsin 4-0 in the 2012 season opener. Senior southpaw Kevin Brandt threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings while Jack Reinheimer, Philip Clark, John Wooten and Tim Younger each collected a pair of hits.

Here a few things you might have missed in yesterday's victory:

Friday: East Carolina 4, Milwaukee 0

-Reinheimer belted the first pitch ECU saw over the wall in left field for his first career home run.

-ECU executed a double steal in the fifth frame as Zach Wright swiped second allowing Corey Thompson to steal home.

-John Wooten extended his hitting steak to eight games. The junior first baseman finished 2011 collecting base knocks in seven straight dating back to the Conference USA Tournament opener.

-Junior college transfer Jay Cannon recorded a double in sixth, marking his first base hit at the DivisioII level. Cannon was robbed of a home run later in the tilt, as Panthers' left fielder Jonathan Capasso made a leaping grab in left field.

-Tim Younger, honorary recipient of the No. 23 jersey, collected two hits in the season debut.

-Sophomore infielder/pitcher Drew Reynolds picked up his first career save. The Panthers loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth before Reynolds entered. He struck out the only batter he faced on three pitches.

-Kevin Brandt's nine strikeouts mark the fourth most in a single-game during his career as a Pirate. The lefty was in complete control, throwing 72 strikes in 101 pitches.

Things to look for in Saturday's doubleheader:

-Miami Dade transfer and Virgin Island product Jharel Cotton will record his first start at ECU during today's first game. Cotton attended Menchville High School in Newport News, Va. Receiving the nod in the second game is Cotton's prep teammate Austin Chrismon. Freshman pitcher Deshorn Lake also attended the Virginia high school.

-The Pirates will feature the same lineup used yesterday in the first game of the doubleheader.

-In the second game of the 2011 campaign, Younger laced a game-winning base hit in the bottom of the ninth inning leading the Pirates to a 1-0 triumph over Youngstown State.

-ECU pitchers Brandt, Merritt, Santangelo and Reynolds combined to strike out 13 Panthers.

-The initial game of today's doubleheader begins at noon, while the second contest will begin approximately 45 minutes following the conclusion of game one.
