Every year before the start of the baseball season, one player is chosen at the annual "Meet the Pirates" fan session to wear East Carolina's honorary No. 23 jersey and on Jan. 28, senior Timothy Younger became the ninth recipient to earn the highest honor in the baseball program.

The No. 23 jersey, which was the number worn by the late ECU Head Coach Keith LeClair throughout his coaching and playing career, became an honorary number for the Pirate baseball program in 2003.

During his junior campaign, Younger played in 50 games making 29 starts with the Pirates after transferring from St. Petersburg College. His impact was felt immediately going 2-for-3 with an RBI in the season opener against Youngstown State where he recorded his first start at second base. The following day, he drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth on a single down the right field line scoring Philip Clark in a 1-0 victory.

He batted .250 (20-for-80) with five doubles, 10 RBI and 13 runs scored. Defensively he posted a .954 fielding percentage committing just five errors in 108 chances recording 36 putouts, 67 assists and turning 11 double plays. In all, he tallied five multi-hit games and ranked second on the team with 10 sacrifices (nine bunts).

Younger would close out his Pirate career becoming the 43rd player in school history to earn All-Regional Team honors following the 2012 Chapel Hill Regional. The Clearwater, Fla. native batted .357 (5-for-14) tying for second on the team with Drew Reynolds and trailing only sophomore Chase McDonald, who batted .545 (6-for-11). Younger drove in a pair of runs, scored twice, drew one walk and recorded 14 putouts and six assists.

He capped off his career playing in 60 games on the season (52 at second base) concluded his career season batting .313 (68-for-217) with 10 doubles, 27 RBI and scored 38 runs. He posted 19 multi-hit games, including a three-hit performance against No. 6 national seed North Carolina in his final collegiate game in the Chapel Hill Regional. Younger recorded a pair of game-winning RBI (Penn State, UAB) and on March 30 drove in a career-best four runs in ECU's 11-6 win over the Blazers, where he was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
