Drew Reynolds had perhaps the best week of his young career during the 2012 DRASH Alabama Classic helping the Pirates to three wins and the tournament title.
The left-handed designated hitter led the squad with a .636 (7-for-11) batting average, which included a home run, two runs scored and three multi-hit games on his way to Conference USA and College Sports Madness Hitter-of the-Week honors.
During the tournament opener against SEC member and tournament host Alabama, Reynolds roped a pair of singles going 2-for-4 from the plate. On Saturday against Oral Roberts, he recorded a then career-best three hits, going 3-for-4 with a run scored - the game winner - in the sixth inning.
To close out the three-day event, Reynolds posted his third consecutive multi-hit game (then fifth career) going 2-for-3 and belting his first career home run to lead off the eighth inning against No. 16 Louisville. He was hit by a pitch in the third frame and recorded a sac bunt in the ninth that led to a pair of ECU runs.
Reynolds, a two-way player for the Pirates, also toed the rubber working two-thirds of an inning against ORU, allowing one run (earned) on three hits with one strikeout.
A finalist for the 2012 John Olerud Two-Way Player-of-the-Year Award, he ranked second on the team with a .330 batting average in 54 games. He started 48 games as the Pirates designated hitter, where he belted three home runs, drove in 24 and scored 31 runs. On the mound, Reynolds led the team with 10 saves posting a 3-0 record in 21 appearances and sporting a 3.00 ERA. The sophomore utility man earned Second-Team All C-USA honors and closed out the season ranking among the league leaders in saves (fourth) and batting average (10th).
