No. 30 East Carolina (19-8, 4-2), fresh off a weekend sweep of Conference USA foe UAB, heads to the Port City on Tuesday for midweek action against in-state rival UNC Wilmington.

The Seahawks are winners of seven of their last nine and also find themselves on the heels of a three-game sweep. UNCW knocked off Old Dominion on three straight days, improving to 15-12 and 10-2 in league play - a ledger that places the 'Hawks in first place in the Colonial Athletic Association.

No. 30 East Carolina (19-8, 4-2 Conference USA) defeated UAB, 6-5, in 13 innings on Sunday afternoon to capture its first sweep of a league opponent thus far in 2012.

The Pirates used a furious three-run rally in the ninth to send the game into extra frames before Ben Fultz delivered a game-winning sacrifice fly to center field in the 13th to give ECU the victory and the sweep.

UAB fell to 17-12 overall, while its league record dropped to 2-4.

Wednesday Preview: East Carolina at N.C. State

After dropping two of three this past weekend on the road against No. 19 UCF, East Carolina (16-7) looks to respond by claiming the season series over in-state rival N.C. State on Wednesday night in Raleigh.

The Wolfpack (16-6) suffered setbacks in games two and three of its series with No. 5 North Carolina this weekend, including a 7-4 loss in last night's nationally-televised ESPNU Game of the Week.

After Tuesday night's 6-5 victory over in-state rival No. 11 North Carolina State,  No. 25 East Carolina hits the road Wednesday for another contest versus a foe from the Tar Heel State.

The Pirates will take on High Point before traveling to Orlando this weekend for their Conference USA opening series against UCF, which is ranked among the nation's top-20 teams.

NOTE: Due to back-to-back midweek contests, the preview for ECU's tilt against the Panthers will not include totals from the East Carolina vs. N.C. State matchup. The High Point Panthers did not play on Tuesday as their game against Appalachian State was postponed due to inclement weather.

No. 25 East Carolina (15-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held off Wolfpack rallies in the seventh and ninth innings to claim a 6-4 victory over one of the nation's hottest clubs in No. 11 N.C. State.

Jeff Hoffman recorded his first career start on the mound as a collegiate and overcame three runs in the second by The Pack (15-4) to notch a solid debut on the bump. He lasted five innings allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits.

After sweeping Penn State last weekend, No. 25 East Carolina welcomes No. 18 NC State to Greenville on Tuesday for a midweek clash.

The in-state rivals have not squared off since the Wolfpack claimed a 4-2 victory over ECU Apr. 5, 2011 in Raleigh.

NCSU enters the tilt winners of its last six, a streak which includes five triumphs over teams ranked among the nation's top-35 clubs (Georgia Tech and Wake Forest).

The Pirates are ranked No. 25 in the latest Perfect Game poll and have won six of their last seven contests and nine of the last 11.

East Carolina continued its winning ways Sunday with a come-from-behind 7-4 victory over Penn State as it captured its third win in as many days over the Nittany Lions.

The Pirates (14-4) trailed by two runs heading into the bottom of the seventh, but used six walks to grab a 6-4 lead before adding another run in the eighth to cap the scoring.

East Carolina staged a furious ninth-inning rally to tie the game and eventually beat Penn State, 6-5, in the 10th to grab a series victory over the Nittany Lions Saturday afternoon at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium.

The Pirates improved to 13-4 on the season while PSU moved to 3-13.
