IRVING, Texas - A pair of outstanding pitching performances this week have earned East Carolina junior LHP Kevin Brandt the Conference USA Pitcher-of-the-Week award for the period ending Mar. 20 the league office announced Monday.
The East Carolina baseball team capped off a perfect 5-0 week picking up wins against Elon and Buffalo during midweek action and a three-game non-conference series sweep of Rutgers at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium.
On the week, the ECU pitching staff tossed its fifth shutout of the season, allowed 11 runs (six earned) and lowered its team ERA to a national leading 1.67. Brad Mincey registered two wins on the week, while Kevin Brandt, Seth Simmons and Mike Wright each collected one. ECU will take a break from action during the week and will be back on the diamond this weekend when it welcomes Memphis to town to open Conference USA play on Friday, March 25.
The East Carolina baseball team is coming off a 4-1 week where they picked up wins against Campbell (3-2), High Point (5-4), Monmouth (4-3) and Rutgers (5-0). The Pirates' (11-4) lone loss was against Liberty, 2-0, in the Eighth Annual LeClair Classic Finale.

On the weekend, ECU hurlers allowed nine runs (all earned) and enter this week's action with a Conference USA best 2.00 team ERA.
East Carolina Head Baseball Coach Billy Godwin will make a guest appearance on the Jeff Lebo Radio Call-In Show Monday, March 7, at 7 p.m. Coach Godwin, who is filling in for Coach Lebo as the men's basketball team travels to El Paso, Texas for the 2011 Buick Conference USA Championship, will be joined by host Chris Hemeyer live from Logan's Roadhouse in Greenville and will feature in-depth game-by-game analysis from Godwin and a question-and-answer segment for fans.

On the season the Pirates own a 4-2 record, its fourth winning record through six games since the 2004. Despite surrendering 17 runs (six earned) on the weekend, ECU's hurlers boast a Conference USA best 1.56 team ERA.
ECU will get its first true test of the season when they travel to No. 10 Virginia for a three-game series. Both teams enter the weekend riding stellar pitching as the Pirates boast an impressive 1.00 ERA, while the Cavaliers' hurlers have a 2.50 ERA.
The East Carolina baseball team is off to a 3-0 start following a series opening sweep of Youngstown State at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. After one weekend the strength of the squad looks to be the pitching staff, who surrendered just three runs in 27.0 innings, while the starting trio of Seth Maness, Zach Woods and Mike Wright allowed just one in 17 innings - a lead off home run in the season opener.
