Minges Family Field at Bate Foundation Track & Field Facility
The Minges Family Field at Bate Foundation Track & Field Facility, finished during the summer of 2011, provides ECU's track and field athletes a first-class venue in which to practice and hone their skills. Falling just below Olympic standards, the stand-alone eight-lane polyurethane track is easily visible to traffic along Charles Boulevard as well providing a scenic backdrop to those sitting in the softball stadium's grandstand.
The facility is named in recognition of a $1 million donation from the Harold H. Bate Foundation of New Bern, which paid for the track facility at ECU's Olympic Sports Complex. Minges Bottling Group of Ayden was also recognized for donating $500,000 toward costs associated with the infield at the track and field facility in the Terry Holland Olympic Sports Complex.
The Pirates hosted their first meet, The Bill Carson Invitational, at the facility in April, 2014.
