GREENVILLE, N.C. - A total of 326 East Carolina University student-athletes, cheerleaders and dance team members will be recognized at halftime of the men's basketball game against SMU Wednesday at Minges Coliseum.

ECU students are being honored for academic distinction, earning selection to the athletics director's honor roll during the 2007 calendar year (spring, fall semesters).

Last spring, a record 52 percent of student-athletes earned a 3.00 or better grade point average. In all, 11 teams possessed team GPA of 3.00 or better. During the fall, 50 percent of student-athletes earned a 3.00 or better GPA and eight squads turned in a team semester GPA of 3.00 or better.

The Pirate men's and women's golf teams as well as the softball squad will be recognized as 2007 recipients of the C-USA Sport Academic Award. The softball team will also be recognized as the 2007 Student Development Life Skills Award Recipient, which also includes a $1,000 award given annually by the ECU Student Development Office to the team that best exemplifies a commitment to academics, community service and personal and career development. The award money is used to assist the team in the purchase of equipment and with team travel.

Michelle Williams, a women's golf team member and Spring 2007 graduate, will be honored as the 2007 Conference USA Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year Award winner for her sport. The award is based on academic and athletic achievement as well as service to the community.

Students are named to the list by earning a semester GPA of 3.00 or better.
