IRVING, Texas --- A total of 190 East Carolina student-athletes have earned recognition to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll during the 2008-09 academic year, Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today. It marks the third consecutive year that ECU has had over 180 student-athletes achieve Honor Roll status. Student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.

All seven members of the women's golf team were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, while 10 of 11 men's cross country student-athletes also maintained a 3.0 GPA. Seven Pirate teams placed over 75 percent of their student-athletes on the list with an additional four teams having at least 50 percent of their student-athletes represented.

The Pirate football team had the most student-athletes on the list with 26, followed by the women's soccer team with 21 (of 25).

UCF placed the highest number of student-athletes on the honor roll for the third year in a row, producing a record 224 members. SMU followed with 209, while ECU ranked third with 190.

Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better also receive the Commissioner's Academic Honor Medal. Those winners will be released tomorrow.
