East Carolina University celebrated the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes at the Sixth Annual Academic Excellence Awards banquet, held on the club level of Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium Monday evening.

The Academic Excellence Award is given to sophomores, juniors and seniors who have earned a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average. Each student-athlete who achieved this goal was honored based on his or her classification at the end of the previous fall semester. A total of 58 student-athletes have maintained a 3.5 GPA, including eight with a perfect with 4.0

Student-athletes were asked to invite those faculty members who they deemed influential in their academic endeavors. Other guests included University Athletics Committee members, coaches and other athletic administrators. Chancellor Dr. Steve Ballard and Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. David Dosser presented the awards to each honoree.
