GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina University, Beasley Broadcast Eastern North Carolina and IMG College, the athletics department's multimedia rights partner, have agreed to a five-year extension of its current radio affiliation agreement with WNCT-FM/107.9 and WNCT-AM/1070 according to an announcement Monday.
Pirate football and men's basketball broadcasts, along with weekly coaches' call-in shows, will continue to be heard on Beasley's FM radio flagship in Greenville. ECU's complete 56-game regular season baseball slate and all post-season action will again air on WNCT-AM.
"We are very thankful to George Beasley and the Beasley Broadcast Group, as well as our partners at IMG, for extending our radio agreement for an additional five years," East Carolina Director of Athletics Jeff Compher said. "Beasley has long been considered a leader in radio broadcasting throughout the country, and continuing this relationship gives our loyal and passionate fans a powerful and reliable way to stay connected to the Pirates."
The five-year extension builds on a successful agreement announced in 2008 when WNCT-FM lent its powerful 100,000-watt signal to ECU sports, extending coverage in the west to Raleigh, north to southern Virginia, and up and down the North Carolina coastline. WNCT-AM will continue to deliver Pirate baseball to fans via a strong 50,000-watt station.
"I have always believed that WNCT-FM is the one area station that should have close ties with the University, promoting special events and covering many aspects of this great school which continues to be one of eastern North Carolina's greatest assets," said George G. "This renewal is certainly in the best interest of all parties, especially now as we all try to enhance the growth of ECU's athletics program during its transition to new conference membership."
