Pirates, Mudcats

July 28, 2008

The big hits on the gridiron, the powerful spikes over the net and the game-winning goals on the soccer pitch are ready to make a return to Greenville.

To kick off the start of East Carolina's 2008-09 athletic season, Pirate fans are invited to gather at a Carolina Mudcats' game to display their school spirit. The Mudcats, a Class AA affiliate of the Florida Marlins, will host "Paint It Purple Night" when they face off against the Jacksonville Suns on Thursday, July 31. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at Five County Stadium in Zebulon.

Many notable members of the ECU Community and Pirate Nation will be on hand for the event, including Chancellor Steve Ballard, who will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. PeeDee the Pirate and the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl trophy will also both be visible inside the stadium during the game.

Throughout the night, fans will be able to receive information on both Pirate Club membership and season ticket options. In addition, football schedule cards and magnets will also be available for ECU fans to take home. The Mudcats will also feature its weekly "Thirsty Thursday" promotion, selling special size fountain drinks and beer for only $1.00.

For more information on the event, contact ECU Marketing Representative Corey Bass at 252-737-4532 or go on-line to the Mudcats Ticket Website (enter ECU! as password next to Paint It Purple).
