GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Coming off a record year in 2006-07 and working closely with the Collegiate Licensing Company, the ECU Licensing Program has announced that there will be expanded East Carolina product in the marketplace for Pirate fans in 2007-08.

This broader selection of merchandise will be available in Greenville at the ECU Dowdy Student Store, UBE, JC Penney, ECU souvenir stands and at other local retail outlets. Numerous retail outlets have either expanded their selection beyond Greenville or are going to carry officially licensed ECU products for the first time.

In addition to the local locations, ECU merchandise will be available in the following retail outlets:

  • Dick's Sporting Goods Stores: Jacksonville, Wilmington, Fayetteville, Cary, Durham, Northeast Raleigh, Garner, and Apex.
  • Hibbett Sports has expanded its ECU product line this fall and will carry ECU Nike product in four regional locations: Greenville, Washington, Wilson, and Goldsboro.
  • Wal-Mart has expanded its ECU product line this fall that includes stores in Greenville, Washington, Tarboro, New Bern, Elizabeth City, Kinston, Rocky Mount, Williamston and Wilson.
  • Lowe's Home Improvement has also added an East Carolina University gift card that will be in selected stores in the state of North Carolina beginning in October. The gift cards will also be available on-line at Lowes.com.
  • East Carolina University Crocs are now available at Omega Sports, The Shoe Crate, and Jan's Hallmark.
  • A new online officially licensed photography store opened in August with licensed ECU photos at Replay Photos or ECU Photos.

Many of these retailers will be carrying ECU merchandise for the first time. Alumni and fans are encouraged to support retailers by purchasing ECU products.

"Just as with other brands, retailers want to see results," said Associate Athletics Director Lee Workman. "Support from ECU alumni and fans will reinforce what we have been telling the licensees and retailers who receive the opportunity to produce and sell ECU merchandise - there is demand for East Carolina product. When ECU product sells, it will be the catalyst for future efforts to expand the availability of ECU product in these and other areas in our state and region."

Pirate fans should look for the official licensed product label to be sure they are purchasing official ECU products that support the East Carolina Pirates.

Fans are encouraged to wear purple for every "Paint it Purple Friday" and purple and gold apparel on game day.
