During his collegiate playing career from 1972-1974, Danny Kepley was an all-conference
and honorable mention All-America linebacker.
His first year at East Carolina, Kepley was selected as the team's Most Outstanding Freshman.
He received the national defensive player-of-the-week award in 1973 and was a three-time All-Southern
Conference selection and two-time all-state player.
Kepley was given then nickname "Captain Crunch" for his amazing defensive plays
and as linebacker he anchored the "Wild Dogs" (the defensive unit's moniker). He
went on to play for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and
became a six-time Grey Cup Champion. In 1996, Kepley was elected into the CFL Hall
of Fame.
