Debbie Freeman was a three-sport athlete who lettered in volleyball, basketball and track & field at East Carolina.

The Lady Pirates' Most Valuable Player in basketball in 1976 and '77, Freeman was also a three-time NCAIAW Division I All-State selection. She scored 1,570 points and grabbed 955 rebounds during her career. Freeman grabbed an ECU record 26 rebounds against UNC Greensboro in 1977.

A three-year letterwinner in track & field, Freeman was the NCAIAW field events MVP in 1978 as well as the NCAIAW champion in the shot put and discus. A four-year starter on the volleyball team, she was named team MVP in 1977 and selected to the all-state squad.
