Ken Beatty
Inducted 1974
Head Football Coach (1932-33)
In 1932, Ken Beatty volunteered to coach East Carolina Teachers College's first
football, basketball and baseball teams. For two years all Beatty's work and
responsibility were on a volunteer basis.
His 1932 and 1933 teams did not win a single game but they did accomplish a
much more important task. They sowed the fertile seeds of what was to develop into a
proud and ever-growing Pirate football tradition.
Betty taught his players to hold their heads high in defeat just as the future East
Carolina players who followed in their footsteps would extend the gracious hand in
victory.
