An All-America performer in baseball and basketball, Lacy West played for the Pirates from 1959 to 1963. In basketball, West led his 1962-63 team in field goal percentage, shooting over 48 percent. He also led the team in free throw shooting, hitting over 78 percent of his shots.

West scored 1,111 points during his basketball career.

In baseball, West was a strong force for the 1961 Pirates who finished 22-4 and with the National title. Over his baseball career, West played for fellow Hall of Famers, James Mallory and Earl Smith and his teams had a combined record of 57-21.
