During his time in Greenville, Leander Green became one of the most exciting quarterbacks to play at East Carolina University. He led his teams to a 24-9-1 record from 1977-79 and was named the team's Most Outstanding Offensive Player in 1979.

Green was the ECU leader in passing and total offense in 1978 and '79. He rushed for 178 yards against Richmond on November 10, 1979. Green accumulated 3,609 yards of total offense and passed for 2,098 yards during his career.
