By records and statistics alone, Marcia Girven's name goes down as one of ECU's greatest women's basketball players. Girven was a four-year starter for the Lady Pirates from 1977 to 1981 and set numerous records during that time.

Girven played in 120 games during her four years at ECU and started 117 games. She was just the second player in ECU history to record over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career. Girven set ECU records for blocked shots in a single game (12), season (95), and career (212).

Girven's impact went beyond statistics. Chose as the Best All-Around Player during her junior and senior seasons. She was also voted 1980-81 MVP by her teammates and selected an NCAIAW All-State team member. The 1980-81 squad went 22-7 and finished the season ranked 17th in the country after a birth in the AIAW regional.
