Norwood Vann, a four-year letterman at East Carolina, started at tight end for the
Pirates from 1980-83. As a senior, Vann earned the team's "Clutch Player Award" for
the offensive unit. Also during the 1983 season, Vann helped his team earn an 8-3
record and finish 20th in the Associated Press Top-25 poll.
After completing his stint with the Pirates, Vann moved on to the National Football
League where he played initially with the Los Angeles Rams at linebacker. Vann also
spent time with the Los Angeles Raiders, Buffalo Bills and the Toronto Argonauts of the
Canadian Football League.
Once he left the NFL, Vann returned to East Carolina to complete his undergraduate
degree in communications in 1995.
