Dr. Ray Minges was a guiding force in promoting the development and growth of the entire athletic program at ECU.
One of his biggest contributions was the important role he played in the development of the East Carolina University Century Club (now the Pirate Club) in the 1960s.
Minges served as President from 1964-70 and was a charter lifetime member within the organization. He later served a term on the Pirate Club's Executive Committee from 1982-84 and remained active in the Pirate Club until his death in 1987.
Minges was also a driving force in the fund driving projects to expand Ficklen Stadium in 1968 and again in 1978. A surgeon by profession, Minges traveled with the Pirates as their team doctor during the 1960s.
