Willard E. Bryant, Jr., a 1978 ECU graduate, was a two-sport standout for the
Pirates. The Glassboro, N.J., native played football and also competed on ECU's
wrestling team.
Bryant won two Southern Conference titles as a heavyweight in 1974 and '75 under ECU Hall of Fame coach
John Welborn. In 1973, Bryant was the N.C. Collegiate champion.
On the football field, Bryant was an All-Southern Conference defensive tackle. He recorded 47 tackles in 1974 and '75. As a senior in 1975, he also added one fumble recovery and three tackles for loss to earn All-Southern Conference honors.
Bryant is also a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of
Fame for Wrestling.
