Zack Valentine, a 1977 All-America honorable mention player in football, was a Pirate
standout from 1975-78.
A four-year Pirate starter, Valentine was a 1978 and '79 All-South Independent
selection. The 1978 Independence Bowl MVP, Valentine was also named ECU's
Most Outstanding Defensive Player and Most Outstanding Senior that season.
A second round draft pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1978 National Football
League Draft, Valentine played for the 1979 Super Bowl Champions and was the
Steelers' Special Teams Player-of-the-Year. Valentine is a 1979 ECU graduate with a
degree in health and physical education.
