Former Pirate Alston Signs With Cleveland Browns
May 30, 2003 | Football
Alston, who has played receiver, H-back, and quarterback during the course of his four-year career as a Pirate, will attempt to make a Browns team deep at the wide receiver position. He is the third ECU player to sign with an NFL team this spring as defensive end Ja'Waren Blair signed on with the Cincinnati Bengals and defensive back Kelly Hardy inked a deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Hardy has since been released.
In 2002, Alston ranked third in Conference USA in receiving yards per game as he made 36 catches for 702 yards and six touchdowns. He caught at least one pass in each of his last 23 collegiate games. Alston notched three 100-yard receiving games last season, capped off by a career-best eight catches for 120 yards in the season finale against Cincinnati.
The 6-0, 214-pound Alston is a native of Warrenton, N.C., and product of Warren County High School.
