GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina men's and women's cross country teams put their 2016 campaign to rest Friday, competing in the NCAA Southeast Regional at Paramore Farms in Charlottesville, Va. The men took 18th place in the 10K while the women finished 21st in the 6K.
Â
"We had a great day on the toughest course we have run all season," assistant coach Josey Weaver said. "We competed and fought the entire race, which was great to see out of our team. We beat some really good teams, along with some in-state rivals, and I am very excited about the future of our young men's and women's teams. We bounced back from conference and showed that we are a force to be reckoned with in the Southeast Region. Today concluded our cross country season on a high note, and we will now shift our focus to indoor track. I expect big and exciting things from our student-athletes in the future. I am so proud to be a part of Pirate Nation! I truly believe that we're not where we want to be, not where we're going to be but headed to where we will be."
Â
Senior Jorge Montes, a three-time All-American Conference honoree, wrapped up his collegiate career with a 74th place finish, crossing the line in 31:12.9 while sophomore Nick Ciaccia took 84th in a time of 31:24.5. Senior Pol Solanelles finished just two spots back in 86th (31:24.8).
Â
On the women's side, sophomore Grace Sullivan placed a very respectable 54th, recording a time of 21:48.6. Senior Caroline Reiser finished 107th in a time of 22:33.7.
Â
The women matched their team placement from last year's regional while the men improved six spots.
