Gregory Named To 2016 Ray Guy Award Watch List

AUGUSTA, Ga. - East Carolina senior punter Worth Gregory is one of 27 players named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List, according to an announcement by the Augusta Sports Council Thursday.
The Ray Guy Award is presented annually to the nation's best collegiate punter.
The Fort Mill, S.C. native ranked among the American Athletic Conference's top punters with a 43.1 average in 2015. He covered 2,583 yards on 60 boots and established an ECU single-season record as a junior by landing 32 punts inside the 20-yard line. Gregory enjoyed a run of eight-straight drops inside the 20 in contests against Virginia Tech, SMU and BYU a year ago. In all, 11 of his kicks eclipsed the 50-yard mark, including two that traveled 70 or more yards.
Gregory, a three-time Ray Guy Award Watch List member since becoming the Pirates' top punter in 2014, owns a career average of 43.3 yards per boot and has planted a total of 51 inside the 20-yard line.
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times a punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents' 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average return yardage and percentage of punts not returned. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.

The number of eligible candidates for this season will grow when the award opens for nominations in September. The complete list of candidates will be released on October 28 before 10 semi-finalists and three finalists are selected on November 11 and November 22, respectively. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN on Thursday, December 8.
The Pirates will open the 2016 season at home against Western Carolina inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium Sept. 3 with a 6 p.m. (ET) scheduled kickoff.
