
Trio of ECU Golfers Named All-America Scholars

Conover, Dickens and Hicks earn academic honors for second straight season

NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America has named East Carolina senior golfers Wes Conover, Al Dickens and Jacob Hicks Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars.
It is the second straight season in which the trio were named All-America Scholars becoming the seventh, eighth and ninth ECU student-athletes to be named to the list twice. It is the second time in ECU history that three of its players have been named All-America Scholars, matching last year's total. All three players were also named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic team a year ago.
Conover and Hicks, who were both named to The American Men's Golf All-Conference Team, each graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications in May, while Dickens earned his undergraduate degree in marketing a year earlier before pursuing a second degree during the 2015-16 academic calendar.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
A total of 212 players in Division I, 91 in Division II and 12 in NAIA earned the honor.
