Volleyball Welcomes Lael Ceriani To The Fold For 2016 Campaign
July 25, 2016 | Volleyball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Lael Ceriani, who spent the first two seasons of her collegiate career at UT Martin, has completed a grant in aid agreement to attend East Carolina and play volleyball for the Pirates beginning officially in the fall of 2016 according to an announcement Monday by fourth-year head coach Julie Torbett.
Â
Ceriani, a 6-1 outside hitter who hails from San Diego, Calif., was the top offensive producer for the Skyhawks in 2015 as a sophomore as she paced UT Martin in kills, kills per set, points and points per set while ranking among the squad's leaders in hitting percentage.
Â
"We are very excited to have Lael join our team," Torbett said. "She comes from a volleyball family and a volleyball state. Her mother is one of the best to ever play at BYU. She had two good seasons at UT Martin and is very versatile at the net. Lael has competed at both the outside and right side positions and will play wherever she is needed."
Â
Ceriani produced 329 kills (2.63 per set) and 353.0 points (2.82 per set) in 2015. She also tallied 171 kills (2.76 per set) and hit .201 in Ohio Valley Conference matches. Ceriani notched double-digit kills in 17 contests while recording a season-high 19 kills twice - against USC Upstate and at Tennessee State. Most notably, she racked up 17 kills, seven blocks, seven digs and a .235 hitting percentage in UT Martin's five-set victory at Ole Miss.
Â
As a freshman, Ceriani experienced playing time in 40 sets over 20 matches and put down seven kills at Alabama State.
Â
During her decorated prep career, Ceriani helped lead Scripps Ranch High School to a 35-3 overall record, a Western League championship and a top-20 ranking in the state of California. In 2013 as a senior, she was an All-San Diego Section first-team selection and won Western League Player of the Year accolades.
