Pirates Complete 14th Practice Of Fall Camp
August 15, 2016 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina turned in its 14th practice of fall camp with a two hour-and-15 minute session in full pads Monday afternoon at Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex. Prior to the workout, the Pirates checked out of their preseason dorm rooms and moved into their fall semester lodging accommodations.
"We had to battle through some elements today and the heat was one of them," first-year head coach Scottie Montgomery said. "We did have a few guys out of practice with some bumps and bruises, but our young guys battled through. Offensively, I thought we kept pretty good tempo in the heat. Now I think it's time for the coaches to start pulling back a little bit and let the guys just play. We can't coach them every single play, so we are starting to adjust to that."
Following a lifting regimen with strength coach Jeff Connors and his staff, the Pirates conducted meetings and broke for lunch before returning for Monday's practice. The Pirates spent a total of 24 minutes on special teams work and a combined 42 minutes of team with focus on all facets of the game, including 10 minutes on red zone efficiency.
ECU will conduct the third of four two-a-days on Tuesday before returning to a single full-pad workout Wednesday afternoon followed by two practices Thursday and a night session on Friday. Camp will officially end on Saturday, Aug. 20 when the Pirates hold a public workout at Rocky River High School from 2:45-5:15 p.m. The full-pad practice is open to all Pirate Club members, fans and the media.
Pirate Profile: PK Davis Plowman
My dream vacation is: Mexico or the Bahamas playing golf for an entire week.
If I could attend any sporting event it would be: The Masters.
I can't imagine living without: Football and golf.
My favorite sports announcer is: Voice of the Pirates Jeff Charles.
My favorite movie is: Dazed and Confused.
If I could be a character in a movie or a TV show, it would be: Randall "Pink" Floyd (Dazed and Confused).
If I were a superhero I'd be: Batman.
What's the No. 1 song on your Ipod: Rockstar (Nickelback).
My favorite pro sports team is: Atlanta Falcons.
If I could change one rule in college football, I would: Change back the onside kick where you could one-hop it off the ground.
My favorite toy as a child: Trains.
When I played football as a kid, I pretended I was: Adam Vinatieri (Indianapolis Colts kicker).
My teammates don't know that I: Once sang in front of the Pope in seventh grade.
If I had a 10 million dollars I would buy: New golf clubs and a boat.
When I want to get away from my sport, I: Like to play golf.
My advice to kids is: Follow your dreams.
The biggest obstacle I've overcome was: Recovering from a four-story fall.
I'm proudest of: Helping people. For example, one time an elderly women asked for help pumping gas, so I did. What she didn't know is that I went inside and paid it for her because she was having issues with her credit card at the pump.
My most prized possession is: Golf clubs.
After meeting Coach Montgomery for the first time, I thought to myself: He is a scary dude.
Describe Coach Montgomery in three words or less: Intimidating, confident and excited.
If I could give Coach Montgomery some advice, it would be: Keep doing what he is doing, which is a great job.
Camp Notes:
Heat indices reached triple-digits during Monday's practice … Montgomery announced that sophomore DB Blake Norwood has left the program for personal reasons … Single-game, three-game mini packs and season tickets for all ECU home games are still available to the Pirate Nation and can be purchased by calling the ECU Athletic Ticket Office at 252-737-4500, through the Online Ticket Center, or by visiting the ECU Athletics Ticket Office … For all the latest ticket information, follow the ECU Ticket Office on Twitter (@ecuathletictix).
