ECU Continues Preseason Camp; Pirate Profile On OL J.T. Boyd
August 16, 2016 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – First-year head coach Scottie Montgomery and his staff guided East Carolina through a 90-minute full-pad workout Tuesday night at Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex. Originally scheduled as fall camp's third two-a-day session, Montgomery decided to move the practice to the evening due to hot daytime temperatures that reached in the upper 90's.
"We went later tonight because we wanted to try and put a little space between the last practice we had and this one," Montgomery said. "I never thought it would be this cool out here and our guys benefited from it tremendously. It was one of those practices where the energy level was high and it was a good night for us. We did have about three or four guys come back after missing a couple of days with minor injuries, and we should have more returning Wednesday."
Following special team and individual group meetings and a one-hour walk-through, the Pirates conducted their 15th workout of with 24 minutes of special teams drills and a combined 25 minutes of team, including 10 minutes on red zone.
ECU has four more practices scheduled in Greenville through Friday before officially closing camp on Saturday, Aug. 20 when the Pirates hold a public workout at Rocky River High School from 2:45-5:15 p.m. The full-pad practice is open to all Pirate Club members, fans and the media.
Pirate Profile: OL J.T. Boyd
My dream vacation is: Hawai'i. I want to go somewhere tropical and see some volcanoes.
Person in history I'd most like to meet (& why): Babe Ruth. Think it would be good to sit in a dugout with him during a N.Y. Yankees' game.
Best athlete I've played against: Jadeveon Clowney in high school.
Player on this team who'll surprise this year: OL Dalton Montgomery.
If I could attend any sporting event it would be: Without a doubt, the Super Bowl.
My favorite sports announcer is: John Madden.
My favorite movie is: Gladiator with Russell Crowe.
If I could be a character in a movie or a TV show, it would be: Shrek.
If I were a superhero I'd be: Batman.
What's the No. 1 song on your Ipod: Fergalicious (Fergie).
My favorite pro sports team is: Carolina Panthers.
The one thing I would most want to accomplish in football is: Being an All-American.
If I could change one rule in college football, I would: You can't hit defenders over the pile. I wish that was still allowed.
The thing I like most about ECU is: I like everything about East Carolina. But if I had to say one thing, it would be the brotherhood we have on the football team.
My favorite toy as a child: My PlayStation. I was a big couch potato growing up.
My favorite midnight snack: Cook Out.
When I played football as a kid, I pretended I was: I always wanted to be a quarterback, so Jake Delhomme. On defense it was Julius Peppers.
My teammates don't know that I'm: I played travel soccer growing up.
If I had a 10 million dollars I would buy: First thing would be a nice house, then I would buy all the toys – a boat, car and a four-wheeler.
When I want to get away from my sport, I: Either put on a good movie or listen to music.
My advice to kids is: Take school seriously and learn how to study. College will be a lot easier if you have good study habits.
My most exciting moment in sports was when: In my ninth grade year playing travel basketball, we hit a three-pointer in triple overtime to advance to the state finals. We ended up losing the state championship in overtime.
I'm proudest of: My ability to make people laugh.
My most prized possession is: My family. I would do anything to keep them intact.
My worst fear is: Spiders or anything creepy-crawly I don't mess with.
After meeting Coach Montgomery for the first time, I thought to myself:Â This guy is for real.
Describe Coach Montgomery in three words or less: Enthusiastic, intense and funny.
If I could give Coach Montgomery some advice, it would be: Find a way to get me into the end zone this year.
