Pirates Finish 16th Workout; Demetri McGill Profile
August 17, 2016 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Following a late Tuesday night practice, East Carolina returned to Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Complex for its 16th workout with a near two-hour afternoon session in full pads under partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-90's.
"If we are going to win a lot of ball games around here, we have to practice better than we did today," first-year head coach Scottie Montgomery said. "The best part of practice was the conditioning at the end and I was really pleased with that. We had a big time Western Carolina install today on both sides of the ball. They present some formational problems both offensively and defensively. We have to make sure our run fits are on point. It's not just enough to run to the football, you have to be gap responsible and that's one of the things we worked on today."
The Pirates continued their daily regimen with 25 minutes of special teams work, 20 minutes of team and nearly 30 minutes of skeleton (7 vs. 7) before closing with a five minute segment of conditioning with strength coach Jeff Connors.
ECU has three scheduled practices remaining in Greenville through Friday before officially closing camp on Saturday, Aug. 20 when the Pirates hold a public workout at Rocky River High School from 2:45-5:15 p.m. The full-pad practice is open to all Pirate Club members, fans and the media.
