GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina University Athletics and the ECU Pirate Club have announced an $875,000 leadership commitment in support of the $55-million Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium Southside Renovation Campaign, targeted to be completed in the fall of 2018.
Carl and Connie Rogers, Pirate Club members and season ticket holders of 25 years, have helped accelerate the capital campaign with a significant gift to name the Pirate Club Level located within the newly-renovated southside tower in addition to their premium seating commitment.
"Carl and Connie Rogers are truly passionate about the Pirates and their leadership gift for this project is a demonstration they believe in the future of our athletics program and our entire university," ECU Director of Athletics Jeff Compher said. "I am convinced their gift will inspire others to help us complete this bold project."
A long-time supporter of ECU Athletics, Carl is in his sixth year as a member of the Executive Committee after serving as the foundation's president in 2015-16. He currently serves as president of DuBose National Energy Services, Inc.
"My family and I are blessed to be able to support this renovation project and are honored to have this venue carry our name, but more importantly, we are excited to have this area available for all to enjoy," the Rogers family said.
The Rogers family has displayed their commitment and support to ECU Athletics through significant gifts to various capital campaigns including Clark-LeClair Stadium, Smith-Williams Basketball Practice Facility and the Step Up to The Highest Level Campaign.
J. Batt, Executive Director of the Pirate Club, shared that "Carl and Connie Rogers, as well as their entire family, are the epitome of servant leaders. They continually guide and support ECU Athletics through their generosity of time and financial resources."
Rogers understands the importance of the game day experience surrounding Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. He believes part of the enhancement is the relocation of the Pirate Club building within the southside tower, as a rally point for Pirate Nation and its loyal Pirate Club members.
"Providing each Pirate Club member a premium area to gather and socialize is a way of thanking them for that support," Rogers stated. "No one has fans more passionate and committed than we do and this area will be a tribute to all in the Pirate Nation."
As part of a long-term facilities master plan, the $55 million capital campaign involves the construction of a southside tower resulting in the creation of 1,000 premium seats through the addition of a new Club Level, Loge Boxes, Standard Suites and Founder's Suites. In addition to an enhanced game-day experience with a new Pirate Club Level, Field Level Club and premium parking spaces.
Beyond Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, the project includes improvements to the Ward Sports Medicine Building and Scales Field House to provide needed functional space for over 450 Pirate student-athletes. Development of a hitting facility adjacent to Clark-LeClair Stadium, serving both baseball and softball programs, is also part of the capital campaign project.
"This is an opportunity to move our programs, particularly football, forward in a major way. We have lots of fans and many of our fans are supporters. We need all of our fans to step up and be supporters for this project," Carl Rogers added. "We need for all Pirates to take this opportunity to add their own personal "brick" in the foundation of the most important project in our athletic history."
I truly believe that those who do will experience a tremendous feeling of pride and accomplishment. We will get this done because that's what we do as Pirates -- We never give up!"
