August 26, 2016 | Men's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina University freshman point guard Shawn Williams must complete a year of academic residency at the University before being cleared for competition according a recent ruling by the NCAA.
Â
"We are disappointed for Shawn and his family," ECU Head Basketball Coach Jeff Lebo said. "However, this will be a great opportunity for him to spend the next year developing himself academically and preparing himself for a very rewarding college experience both scholastically and athletically. We look forward to having Shawn as a full member of our program next season."
Â
Williams, a native of Little Rock, Ark., inked his National Letter-of-Intent with the Pirates during the 2015 fall signing period. As a senior at Maumelle High School, he received all-state honors from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Arkansas High School Athletic Association. He averaged 23.0 points and 3.6 assists per game, while leading his team to the state 5A championship game.
