GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina Head Football Coach Scottie Montgomery officially opened his first fall camp as he welcomed members of his 105-man preseason roster to campus Wednesday to kick off the 2016 campaign.
The student-athletes, who began reporting at 10:30 a.m. (ET), started the day with a team meal before handling traditional check-in responsibilities such has paperwork for academics, compliance and insurance, while also completing physicals and equipment-fitting sessions. After moving into Tyler Hall on campus, the Pirates returned for a team dinner and then sat through another string of meetings before returning to the dorms in preparation for their initial practice of camp scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
East Carolina returns 11 of 22 positional starters with five on offense and six on defense. The Pirates also welcome back 50 lettermen from last year's squad (19/offense, 26/defense, 5/specialist).
Of the 11 returnees, five have been named to a preseason watch list in 2016: J.T. Boyd (Outland Trophy), Worth Gregory (Ray Guy Award), Quay Johnson (Paul Hornung Award), Zay Jones (Biletnikoff Award) and Christian Matau (Polynesian Football Player of the Year).
Single-game, three-game mini packs and season tickets for all ECU homes games are still available to the Pirate Nation and can be purchased by calling the ECU Athletic Ticket Office at 252-737-4500, through the Online Ticket Center, or by visiting the ECU Athletics Ticket Office.
