August 04, 2016 | Lacrosse
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Lexi Cross, who earned All-America honors as a defender at James Madison University in 2015, has been named an assistant coach for the East Carolina women's lacrosse program according to an announcement Thursday by head coach Amanda Barnes.
Â
"Lexi has always displayed tremendous energy and passion for the sport of lacrosse," Barnes said. "I have followed her conference championship and award-winning playing career at James Madison and I know she will bring the same competitive spirit and dedication to this program. She is a tireless recruiter and an excellent tactical defensive coach. I know she will contribute positively to our women's lacrosse program and the East Carolina community."
Â
Cross most recently worked as an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb during the 2016 season as the team's recruiting and compliance coordinator. She was also responsible for film breakdown and gameday preparation.
Â
During the fall of 2014, Cross served as an intern with the James Madison Strength and Conditioning program where she assisted with all aspects of the training program for football, golf and swimming and diving.
Â
As a three-year starting defender for the Dukes, Cross helped propel JMU into the top 20 nationally and was a team captain as a senior. She earned numerous accolades that season, including preseason Third-Team All-America honors, All-Colonial Athletic Association First-Team recognition, all-region laurels and a spot on the ECAC Division I All-Star First Team.
Â
During her junior year, Cross again was recognized as a first-team all-conference and all-region selection while also garnering CAA All-Tournament Team honors. She was also tabbed the league's Defender of the Week April 14 for her standout performances at conference foes Delaware and Towson.
Â
In addition to her success at the collegiate level, Cross was invited to try out for the 2014 United States National Team in 2014 as well as the United Women's Lacrosse League earlier this year.
Â
Each summer from 2011-14, Cross served as a coach for the M&D club program in Ellicott City, Md. She assisted high school players and their families with college recruiting as well as planning and directing overall team strategy for practices and games. Â
