
Cross Country Wins Both Individual Titles At Pirate Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The ECU cross country program turned in a stellar showing on its home course Friday evening, placing second in the both the men's and women's races of the Pirate Invitational.

Duke, No. 11 in the Southeast Region, edged the Pirates 50-49 on the men's side while College of Charleston captured the women's title with 34 points to ECU's 42.

Senior Bakri Abushouk claimed the men's individual crown with an 8K time of 24:00 while junior Grace Sullivan emerged victorious on the women's side, finishing the 6K race in a time of 20:37 – matching her effort from the Paul Short run two weeks ago.

The Pirates took first and third in the men's race as Bakri's brother sophomore Dean Abushouk put up a personal-best 8K time of 24:34. Junior Nick Ciaccia placed seventh, crossing the finish line in 24:42 – also a career-best time.

Sophomore Mikayla Stoudt captured eighth place with a time of 22:13 with sophomore Nuria Tillo-Prats close behind in 11th place (22:25).

ECU now turns its attention to the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, scheduled for Oct. 28 in Philadelphia, Pa.
