Inaugural Fan Engagement Council Conducts First Meeting

GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU Athletics recently held the first meeting of the newly-established Fan Engagement Council. This initiative, launched at the end of August, had over 130 applications from fans who wanted to serve on the council.
The difficulty came in narrowing the applicant pool and demographic information (i.e. student, alum, donor, season ticket buyer), age, gender, and reason for wanting to participate were taken into consideration when selecting the group of 32 (listed below).
During the first meeting, members were asked to share with athletics administration officials one thing they would change about their fan experience. While the majority of items centered around football and Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, some council members shared their thoughts on the basketball fan experience and other ECU sporting events. Topics such as student attendance and engagement, concessions, restroom cleanliness, in-game entertainment and the need to make events and facilities more family-friendly (i.e. family restrooms, kids zone, etc.) all were mentioned during the two-hour meeting.Â
"I was very impressed with the insight and suggestions everyone brought to the meeting," ECU Director of Athletics Jeff Compher said. "The group was prepared to talk and many of them traveled from out of state to be here"
Armed with constructive feedback, the athletics department is now tasked with the responsibility of exploring the feasibility of these suggestions. While some ideas may be easily and quickly executed, others will take more planning, resources and time to properly vet. ECU Athletics will continue to provide updates throughout the year from the Fan Engagement Council and any changes implemented thanks to the insight of the council members.
"These are dedicated Pirates and we are excited to learn from them and make improvements based on their ideas," Compher added.
