Alex Turner Named Academic All-District

GREENVILLE, N.C. – ECU sophomore defensive tackle Alex Turner has been named to the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 3 First-Team the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
Turner, a dual major in multidisciplinary studies and psychology, sports a 3.61 cumulative GPA was named to the 2016-17 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and is a two-time ECU Honor Roll selection.
On the season, Turner has started six of eight games tallying 14 tackles (six solo) to go along with a sack and 1.5 TFLs. The Houston, Texas native booked a career-high four stops (three solo) in his first career start at Connecticut, which also included a four-yard sack. He has started six-straight contests and registered at least one tackle in his last seven games (multiple five times).
To be eligible for the Academic All-District Football Team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. No student-athlete is eligible until he has completed one full calendar year at his current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December.
