Over 200 ECU Student-Athletes Named To The American All-Academic Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – More than 200 East Carolina University student-athletes have been named to the 2016-17 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team announced Commissioner Mike Aresco Thursday afternoon.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the American Athletic Conference's member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in an American Athletic Conference-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The ECU women's golf and women's tennis team each had 100 percent of its roster on the list with the men's golf, women's soccer and women's swimming and diving squads adding over 84 percent of their rosters to the list. The baseball, men's tennis and softball teams each placed more than 70 percent of their respective student-athletes on the list, while 13 of East Carolina's 17 athletics programs had 50 percent or more of their roster named to the squad.
The nominations are reviewed and approved by the American Athletic Conference Academic Affairs Committee. There are a conference-record 2,417 honorees for the 2016-17 academic year. UConn had 272 selections – the most of any American Athletic Conference institution. Cincinnati followed with 271, while ECU ranked third with 220 student-athletes on the list.
