GREENVILLE, N.C. – The 2017 American Athletic Conference Summer Kickoff and Media Days presented by NAPA Auto Parts is set to begin Monday, July 17 in Newport, R.I. The two-day annual event will take place at Gurney's Newport Resort & Marina.
East Carolina Head Coach Scottie Montgomery along with student-athletes Jimmy Williams (WR) and Jordan Williams (ILB) are set to arrive Monday mid-afternoon and will hit the ground running participating in Media Day events.
Coach Montgomery and ECU players will attend media sessions with American Digital Network, CBS Sports Network and ESPN3, which will take place between 3 and 7 p.m. (ET) before participating in a photo shoot, student-athlete meeting training session and taking part in the conference's signature New England-style clambake, with all 12 teams, bowl partners and invited media members.
Live coverage of the event will kick off with a one-hour program Monday from the site of the event's New England-style clambake. The American's Hali Oughton will be joined by longtime television analyst Andy Katz for interviews with coaches, student-athletes and dignitaries as they arrive at the clambake, with the backdrop of a waterfront sunset.
Tuesday's action starts at 8 a.m. with a head coaches meeting followed by player and head coaches group photos. At 9 a.m., Commissioner Mike Aresco will address local and national media members in attendance with his annual remarks before the Coaches' Roundtables begin.
Legendary sports broadcaster Verne Lundquist will serve as the host of Tuesday's podium sessions, featuring opening remarks by Commissioner Aresco and roundtable sessions with the American's 12 head football coaches beginning with the West Division coaches (9:45 a.m.) followed by the East Division coaches (11 a.m.).
Live coverage of The American's Summer Kickoff and Media Days will begin Tuesday, July 18, at 8:30 a.m. (ET) on The American Digital Network. ESPN3 will follow with a two-hour recap of the two-day event, hosted by Mike Couzens and Matt Chatham, Tuesday at 1 p.m. (ET).
