Pirates Prep For Initial Fall Scrimmage
August 11, 2017 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina completed its eighth workout of fall camp with 90-minute practice in shells Thursday at Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice. Second-year head coach Scottie Montgomery and his staff guided the Pirates through the afternoon session prepping his team for their first scrimmage of camp.
Originally scheduled for a morning practice, the Pirates rearranged their schedule due to heavy rains in the area and conducted a walk-through inside the inside the Smith-Williams Center before breaking for lunch.
"Today was a focus day and we were able to get a lot accomplished," Montgomery said. "With the rain this morning, we were able to move inside and got in a lot of good work with special teams as well as offense vs. defense situation. We wanted to focus on the getting aligned properly and work on our stances. Our coaches did a good job of coaching, despite being inside, and really hitting home every little detail. The guys are still having lots of fun, while staying focused at the same time.
"Yesterday was a big-time competitive day and we had a lot of energy on both sides of the ball. So this was a good day to come back and look at technique and look at the tape."
During the afternoon portion of practice, ECU opened with special teams work before devoting a combined 50 minutes in team working on coming out of the endzone, open field situations, third downs, redzone and two-minute drills.
Saturday's closed scrimmage, which will take place at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, is designed to start formulating the program's first depth chart of the season.
ECU's administration announced that due to rain and lightning forecast for the area Saturday evening, the 23rd Annual Meet the Pirates event has been moved to Saturday, April 26 from 5-7 p.m., which will precede ECU's home volleyball match against Rutgers in the East Carolina Invitational.
Single-game, three-game mini packs and season tickets for all ECU homes games are still available to Pirate Nation and can be purchased by calling the ECU Athletic Ticket Office at 252-737-4500, through the Online Ticket Center, or by visiting the ECU Athletics Ticket Office.
