ECU Conducts Morning Workout At Hight Field
August 16, 2017 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Second-year head coach Scottie Montgomery and his staff guided East Carolina through a two-hour full-pad workout Wednesday morning at Hight Field inside the Cliff Moore Practice Facility. Under partly cloudy skies and humid conditions, the Pirates conducted their 12th workout of camp moving closer to the team's second and final intra-squad scrimmage.
"It was another hot day for us," Montgomery said. "We started really fast on defense and I liked our tempo. The offense added Jimmy (Williams) back to the mix today in a big way and dominated the end of practice in a grand fashion. We put both sides of the ball in the redzone, a two-overtime situation, with the first and second groups and the offense scored both times. They (offense) have had to hear about what happened in the first scrimmage all week and have really picked things up since Saturday. Both the one's and the two's on offense did a really good job.
"I thought the second team offensive unit grinded it out and the first squad used their big play potential, which is going to be the test for our defense this weekend in our second scrimmage. I look forward to seeing these two staffs and the two units compete for the last time before we come together and turn our focus to James Madison."
The Pirates continued their daily regimen with 25 minutes of special teams work, 40 minutes of team and nearly 50 minutes of individual group work. During an 11-minute team segment, ECU worked on first-and-10 situations, while closing with a 10-minute session devoted to redzone efficiency.
Following lunch and a three-hour resting period, ECU participated in a lifting session, unit meetings and a walk-through before breaking for dinner at Todd Dining Hall and closing the day with another round of special teams and unit meetings.
ECU has two scheduled practices remaining through Friday before closing camp Saturday, August 19 with its second and final intra-squad scrimmage.
Camp Notes:
Montgomery announced a couple number changes on the 105-man roster: DB Marcus Holden, Jr. will wear No. 6, TE/OL Dalton Montgomery will don No. 99 and WR Mydreon Vines has moved to No. 19 … Single-game, three-game mini packs and season tickets for all ECU homes games are still available to Pirate Nation and can be purchased by calling the ECU Athletic Ticket Office at 252-737-4500, through the Online Ticket Center, or by visiting the ECU Athletics Ticket Office.
