ECU Men's Golf Schedule For 2017-18 Revealed
August 30, 2017 | Men's Golf
GREENVILLE, N.C. --- First-year ECU Head Men's Golf Coach Andrew Sapp revealed the Pirates' 2017-18 schedule Wednesday, which includes four tournaments in the fall and six in the spring prior to the American Athletic Conference Championship, April 22-24, 2018 at Innisbrook Country Club in Palm Harbor, Fla.
Â
ECU will tee off its fall season at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at the Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind. (Sept. 8-10). The Pirates then head to Durham to compete in the Rod Myers Invitational (Sept. 16-17) for the sixth consecutive season. ECU won the team tournament title in 2014 and finished fourth in 2015.
Â
ECU continues its fall campaign two weeks later in Raleigh as it goes for its second consecutive Wolfpack Fall Intercollegiate (Oct. 2-3) championship. The Pirates defeated Kennesaw State by three strokes to win the team title with Tim Conover collecting medalist honors at 12-under-par. The fall season concludes at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Blackthorn Country Club in Johnson City, Tenn.
Â
"We have a great mixture of new events and events we are returning to this year," Sapp said. "We are excited to go back to the Wolfpack Intercollegiate where we are defending champions and to go to the Rod Myers Invitational where we have won in the past. Adding the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Indiana, which is an awesome course, along with the Bank of Tennessee tournament brings some strong competition from outside of our region this fall."
Â
The spring schedule begins with ECU making its seventh appearance in the last nine years at the Sea Best Invitational (Feb. 5-6) at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Fla., followed by its first-ever trip to the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 18-20).
Â
ECU returns stateside for back-to-trips to South Carolina to compete in the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate (March 5-6) in Aiken followed by a visit to the Dunes Beach and Golf Club in Myrtle Beach for the General Hackler Championship (March 10-11). The Pirates competed in the Palmetto Intercollegiate each of the previous two seasons and the General Hackler Championship in six of the last seven.
Â
After a three-week break from competition, the Pirates will host the ECU Intercollegiate (April 2-3) at Brook Valley Country Club before heading to Cary to participate in the inaugural Stith Intercollegiate (April 13-15) at MacGregor Downs.
Â
"Our spring schedule includes two events, the Puerto Rico Classic in February and the Stitch Intercollegiate in Cary in April, along with some excellent tournaments that we played in last year, Sapp stated. "The spring also marks the return of the ECU Intercollegiate at Brook Valley. It's always fun to be able to host our own tournament and give our players a chance to compete in Greenville in front of a home crowd.
Â
"With the experience our players gained last season, they are excited to face the challenge of this year's schedule as we reach for our goals to make it to an NCAA regional and the national championship finals."
