PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The ECU men's and women's cross country teams began their seasons Friday night, picking up a pair of second-place finishes at the Belmont Plateau Park. The Pirates received their first look at the facility that is slated to host the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championships in late October.

Temple took both team titles while Tulane finished third in each race and Southern New Hampshire University took home fourth.

Junior Grace Sullivan posted a time of 22:05 in the 6K to win the women's race while senior Sarah Hamon captured seventh place overall in a time of 22:36. Junior Victoria Cooke and sophomore Mikayla Stoudt rounded out the top 10 in ninth and 10th place with respective times of 22:57 and 23:03.

On the men's side, newcomer and senior Bakri Abushouk placed fourth overall with an 8K time of 26:17 while junior Nick Ciaccia was close behind in sixth place as he crossed the finish line in 26:38.
