Pirates Shake Off the Dust at Elon Invitational

Elon, N.C. – ECU sophomore Austin Allen won his singles flight at the Elon Invitational marking his first tournament title in his young ECU career. Joining Allen in a singles championship was Will Bissett who placed second in the Powell singles flight after losing to Elon's Neal Port 6-3, 6-4 in the title match.

"It was great for us to get back in action," head coach Shawn Heinchon said. "Some of our guys were a bit rusty and it showed with some mixed results in singles. We were impressed with our early season doubles play; that was great all weekend. Great work for Will and Austin. They both had really good singles tournaments, and we are proud of Austin for winning his flight for his first college tournament win."

Javier Renones and Bissett teamed up to win the Powell doubles flight defeating James Madison's Josh Raymundo and Tate Steinour, 8-7 in the final.

ECU continues its fall season at the ITA Carolina Regional hosted by North Carolina in Chapel Hill, Oct. 13-16.
