LYNCHBURG, Va. – A nice showing by the throwers and numerous student-athlete personal best times and marks highlighted the ECU track and field program's participation in the Liberty Invitational this weekend at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
Â
The Pirates won three events and set two meet and facility records while making moves up the American Athletic Conference performance lists.
Â
"I was an OK weekend overall," Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Curt Kraft said. "One of the frustrating things about our sport is that there are a lot of highs and lows throughout a track meet. We have 17 indoor events and it's almost impossible to have the whole team hit on all cylinders each and every weekend. Although we had some good things happen this weekend, we are still a long ways from where we need to be. Our indoor conference championships are in 27 days. We have to get back to work on Monday and get ready for Penn State."
Â
Senior Galissia Cause made it three for three in terms of winning the shot put event title this indoor season, claiming the top spot this week with a meet and facility record throw of 15.86 meters. Classmate Mohogany Baker also came out on top in the weight throw, topping the field with a mark of 19.34 meters.
Â
Junior Rachel Breasseale established a new personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.70 meters to take second place in the event. Additionally, freshman Jada Terrell excelled in the long jump, turning in a season-high mark of 5.71 meters to snatch third place.
Â
On the men's side, senior Ryan Davis produced a meet and facility record in winning the weight throw, recording a toss of 20.51 meters which is the new best mark on the AAC performance list and top 30 nationally.
Â
ECU embarks on its longest trip of the indoor regular season next weekend, traveling to Penn State University for the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup.
